A-Kruunu is closely involved in developing the process of building wooden apartment blocks. In spring 2018, two A-Kruunu wooden apartment blocks were completed at Taidemaalarinkatu 6 in the Kuninkaantammi district of Helsinki. The rental apartments are part of a research project that is comparing the characteristics of wood and concrete construction in similar houses during both the design and construction phases and during building use.

This unique project is part of the City of Helsinki's ‘Developing Apartment Block’ programme, which is increasing the attractiveness and flexibility of apartment blocks and the use of individualised solutions. The study also includes a customer satisfaction survey, which examines possible differences in the pleasantness of living in wood and concrete buildings. The research results will be published in spring 2019.

Kuninkaantammi wooden apartment blocks - a unique timber construction project

The construction of our first wooden apartment block began in July 2016, the topping-out ceremony was held at Taidemaalarinkatu 6 in October 2017, and the work was completed in March 2018. The location has two wooden 4-floor residential buildings with a total of 58 rental homes ranging in size from 34.5 to 88 m². We are constantly looking for new timbre construction projects. Our target is that in 2015, approximately 15 % of all residential building construction projects will consist of wooden apartment blocks projects.
