Easter

Tips for Easter

At Easter, it's nice to indulge in treats and decorate your home for the spring. Even then, it's worth considering the reuse of items to prevent unnecessary waste. Here are some tips for your home at Easter time.

Add colour to the Easter table

Red cabbage, turmeric, onion, blueberries, spinach, rubber bands and coloured tights. If you have these at home, you can create truly beautiful and colourful Easter eggs. You can achieve wonderful visual effects by adding flowers, leaves, rice or plastic wraps. See the instructions in Finnish here:

Cheerful decorations from chocolate egg trinkets

You’ll need:

  • Small plastic trinkets (also available at flea markets, or ask your friends to collect them)
  • Polystyrene crafting wreath
  • An old T-shirt/nightgown (e.g., grey to avoid the colour showing through)
  • Hot glue gun and hot glue
  • Hanging wire

1. Cut a strip from old clothing fabric. Cover the polystyrene wreath with the fabric strip, use hot glue at the ends of the strip. (Glue ensures that the trinkets stick better to the fabric).

2. Glue plastic trinkets next to each other as you want with hot glue. The more there are and the closer they are to one another the better.

3. Make a hanging loop from the wire by winding the wire around the wreath and forming a loop for hanging.

4. Hang on your door for everyone to enjoy!

Don't throw away flower bulbs!

After the Easter and spring potted flowers have bloomed, it's a good idea to plant the bulbs outside, so they'll bring joy with their blossoms in the springs to come. Do not throw away hyacinths, crocuses, daffodils and tulips. Let them dry in their pots. Once they have dried, cut off the withered parts and plant the bulbs outside, so they can continue to delight with their blossoms from one year to the next.
